The Howard Johnson Hotel on 12th street and boardwalk was excellent. I believe you could not get a better staff then what they have there. As soon as we walked in the hotel I felt welcomed. The room was very clean and had an excellent view of the ocean and was very affordable. To top everything off, we had excellent weather! Next time I am in Ocean City I will stay at this hotel for sure!

the hotel was excellent at first but after that forget it nothing gets done. No toilet paper beds were made with horrible sheets bring your own and pillows too. Bathtub had hair in it and the coffee pot was never cleaned. other than that it was a nice vacation. Fishing was great beach clean.

Great location but small rooms and inside pool
The room was smaller than expected. Did not look that small in photos, however location on boardwalk was nice. Probably would not stay there with more than 2 people. DaVinci's on 15th n boardwalk is an excellent meal for the price. Eat there every year. Waterman's good seafood value as well as Ember's ( an all time favorite).

Great Time
My husband and I needed a few days away to unwind before a busy summer ahead. We had a beautiful view with an ocean front room.The weather was unusally warm for this time of year so I got to sit on the beach. Everyone at the hotel and along the boardwalk were so friendly. I loved that there was always coffee available in the lobby. I would recommend this hotel to everyone. It is centrally located but not to far down the boardwalk to be noisy.

Valentine's Weekend
The room was OK. I did find it odd that the heat and air conditioning were behind the curtains. I had to rig someting up to hold the curtain up so that we could get some heat. Otherwise I would have to leave the curtain open and the sun or brightness of the morning would wake us up. The other issue that I had was that I was sick during one of the nights that I stayed and ran out of toilet tissue. There was not another roll in the room and then I had to use tissues. I wasn't able to go downstairs in the middle of the night to get more.

We had a wonderful time Oceanside. Room was a nice set up. With noise makers for the new year. Only thing with room was queen size bed would have been sweet. The hotel staff was awesome. But the on site eat. Find some place else waited on coffee, food, money collection and return of change from bill.. That was the breakfast on Friday.. Other than that I'll be back asap.. Oh! Christmas in OC
We stayed at the Howard Johnson's on 12th & Boardwalk. We had a terrific Christmas special and I marked my selection for "best available." I was pleasantly surprised to be put in an oceanfront room with a balcony. The room and view were wonderful (room 503). The staff at the hotel were congenial and helpful. Garage parking was provided. My only complaints would be (1) the beds in the room were horribly uncomfortable; and (2) the pool and hot tub did not appear to be clean so we did not utilize them. Due to the extreme discomfort with the beds we ended up checking out a day early and heading back home.

Dont recommend it!!!
The parking garage is very tight, the elevators inside are very small and are not a smooth ride they make you feel like your going to get stuck!! The rooms feel like they have way too much in them and you couldnt even open the balcony door. And to top things off the hot water heater in our room started leaking and kept us up all night and soaked our entire floor and everything that we had near it! The managers reaction was thanks for letting me know and sorry about your things. We got no compensation and they didnt even seem to care.

Good stay despite booking error
Booked and had confirmed 2 rooms. When we checked in, the hotel only had ONE room reserved in their system! HoJo was luckily able to "find" another room. They still advertise indoor and outdoor pools, but the outdoor pool was no longer there! The indoor pool area was not very enticing; cloudy, greenish water, towels strewn all over. Ice machine broke down, hot tub wasn't working. And don't look for a guest laundry; they haven't got one! This was surprising. Had to go several blocks away to a public laundromat. Still, the staff was pleasant, rooms were clean, and a good time was had by all.

Little Disappointed
The Howard Johnson hotel had a difficult situation when the water piles broke on the 2nd Floor and the restarant located on 1st Floor had a flood as well as the ground level. I talked to the customer service representative and indicated this is a inconviences to me because I am asthimanic and should have been some incentatives to the customer as far as a voucher for free meal or discount on the next visit. I will never stay at another Howard Johnson due to the way, I was treated.

Great Value, Nice Hotel
Went for 2 nights and got the 25% discount offer running. I was pleasantly surprised that I was upgraded for free from Oceanview to Oceanfront. Here is my reveiw of hotel: Room: Nice and spacious. Ceiling showed signs of wear, but, beds/carpet were clean. LCD is nice and free wifi is great. Only complaint is that AC didn't cool room off as much as I would have liked. Seemed weak. Breakfast..ate at onsite restaurant. Good food and decent price. Location..can't beat 12 st. Near everything. Overall, I would stay here again if those price discounts are still out there.

3rd Stay at the HoJo
This was my 3rd stay at the Howard Johnson on 12th street. Last year my inlaws stayed in an oceanfront room, it had been renovated......new t.v., furniture, balcony doors, draperies, bathroom everything was very very nice....it even had a nice small outdoor pool!!, we booked on a early bird saver deal, expecting the same renovations...........got there...checked in....got put on the 2nd floor, hated it......and they were gracious and accomodating and put us on the best oceanview they had........on the 7th floor...however, the flat screen went out several times....maintenance came and pounded on it and it seemed to work again......double beds certainly could have been queens, the "remodel" had the same furniture, the room in general was certainly not as nice as the oceanfront room we saw the year before..........the renovations in general were basically a "don't look in the corners" do it yourself type of job.........but the beds were comfy the room was clean, the staff was nice.........and I got what I expected for the most part......I just wish the ocean side renovations were as nice as the oceanfront ones. The biggest dissappointment there was that the cute outdoor pool that we had seen last year was GONE!!! They sold that area to Fausto's Bistro for outdoor seating!!! That was a huge disappointment because it is still being advertised 2 pool one indoor and one out........but I NEVER see anyone swimming in the indoor one even at night cause it looks gross. In general I still like the HOJO.......I still Love ocean city........I would still book there again........but word to the wise...if you have a few extra hundreds laying around...spring for the ocean front..........just my opinion.......

Unfortunately nobody told us that the outdoor pool had been permanently closed, and there was a problem with the indoor pool so we could not use it one day of our stay. Check-in NIGHTMARE
I reserved my room online and paid for an Oceanfront Room to be able to watch the Airshow from our balcony, got confirmation that the room was booked and everything, when I get there I am in an Oceanside view on the opposite side of the Airshow. I went to the front desk and after about 45 minutes to an hour of trying to explain to this woman that can not speak good english that I paid for an oceanfront and regardless what her computer said, finally an english speaking woman came over and I explained it to her and she credit the difference of the Oceanfront room that I paid for to the price of the Oceanside view that I was put in. since there were no Oceanfronts available. I will NEVER stay at this hotel again!!!!!

Boardwalk at 12th Street-Oceanfront
On the boardwalk at 12th St. has been renovated, walk to everything, the lobby has a Tuscan look w/Brick Oven Pizzeria Restaurant- Delicious Pizza made in front of you. Staff very pleasant and helpful, get a room on a high floor, from balcony breathtaking views of ocean/bay. Pool perfect, hot jacuzzi and warm indoor pool, towels provided. Room clean & crisp linens w/flat screen tv, bathroom small but all conveniences. Only complaint-maids don't clean rooms unless you beg, other than that a perfect vacation in OC.

Not a great place.
Even though the HOJO boasts complete renovations done in early 08...it still needs a TON more. The rooms were small, but OK...the plazma TV was cool...the bathroom was microscopic. Reminded me of a cruise ship room where you can shower and use the toilet at the same time. The outside facade of the building was crumbling; the maids only did what was absolutely necessary...(there was the same trash in the hallway outside for the entire 3 days. When we called asking for more towels (2x in 4 hours), we had to go downstairs and get them ourselves. The outside pool was this scary green filmy color...and the inside pool was very dirty. Best of all...when I checked out, they charged me a completely different rate than what was quoted to me. I argued with them, but have yet to still receive a refund in over $150 extra that they charged. Make SURE you bring a printout of whatever you were quoted!

A little disappointing
For the price the room was average. I expected a little more for the top dollar I paid. The best part of the hotel was the view. They missed on a lot of little details that could have made our stay better. The bathroom while very pretty was extremely small. The TV was mounted over the dresser and a mirror was over the table. You could only watch TV from bed not the couch and the mirror was useless. The front desk clerk was polite but not friendly or forthcoming with info. They have a parking garage four or five stories tall with no elevator!! When we check in there were no carts available and no one to assist with bags. We had to park on the top and drag everything down!! The pools looked like they had not been cleaned in weeks!! I will not stay again!

Family vacation
The outside pool was apparently under some type of construction. There were white pipes around the outside and I wasn't sure it was safe for our children to swim in it. It was full of sand the entire time we were there and it was murky, not blue water. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We were disappointed that we no longer received complimentary passes to Jolly Roger park. That was definitely an incentive to stay at the Ho Jo. Price-wise, we might try something else since we no longer get the park passes.

I did not like it
I went to stay with a friend and the room was clean but not very nice. It took us almost 30 minutes to check in and then once we were in they did not tell us we were having a king bed. I went to call and the phone did not work then I went down stairs to ask about a new room the front desk person would not even look to see if there was anyway we could change he just said no. The bathroom door would not close the hinge was broken. There was stuff in the bottom of the tub. For how much we paid for this room you would have thought we were getting something great and we did not.

Fun yet questions
Hotel staff was great! We were right on the boardwalk on 11th street which was nice, I've never stayed on the boardwalk so it was an interesting experience. Down sides: We were right next to the elevator and heard everything, walls are paper thin, access to the hotel is to easy for anyone (can just walk in). Upside: room was cheaper than what I was originally quoted, front desk staff were great, and we were next to a bunch of little places to grab a bite to eat. Would I stay there again: no - but mainly because the boardwalk was a little much for me. The perks of being close to food were outweighed by the amounts of people walking it/ could hear at 3am.

HOJO on 12th
Great place for ocean city standards. Pools were pretty dirty and small, but hey we were there for the beach. Room was small, but nice. Breakfast buffet is pricey and sucky, but bar is nice. Breakfast next door at brass balls is preety good and good price. Enjoyed our stay and would stay there again.

We would Definetly Stay here Again!
We had A great time and this hotel was very conveniently located in the middle of everything. We only had to get into our car to go somewhere once the whole time we were there. The check in was a little slow and not much of anyone around to help with all of our bags and such. We had lots of clean towels every day and our room was pretty clean and we had a great view. We had one problem with our toilet leaking one morning but by the time we got off the beach for the day and after we got dressed to go out for dinner it was replaced . We enjoyed the outside pool off the boardwalk,as well as , our Pina Colodas while lounging by it and swimming our daughter. We frequently ate next door at the Brass Balls Salloon and the Bad Ass Cafe , the prices were great and the food awesome..especially the coconut shrimp and Breakfast. the are Very kid Friendly and have a great kids Menu. the Kids lunch is served in there very own souvenior Sand bucket and Shovel ...Very Cute!!! We would definetly Stay here again!!

Ocean City 4th of July weekend
The first day/night we had a problem with the toilet being clogged. Someone came to fix it after we called the front desk, but there were still some problems until the next day. The outside pool was small and did not look clean, so didnt get in it. The hotel had a nice restaurant. We were not asked by the front desk personnel about our hotel stay when we checked out. Plus side: it is on the boardwalk. Overall the hotel was ok, but for the price, it could be better.

Nice rooms, great locations, bad customer service
Overall, a good stay. The location is great. The rooms were very nice and clean but the bathrooms were extremely small. It was convenient to have an indoor and outdoor pool. My biggest complaint would have to be customer service. When I called the morning of our arrival, I was told the room was ready and we could check in anytime. When we arrived, we were told that the room was not ready. We ended up waiting 3 hours, we still got into the room before the normal check in time, but they never apoligized about the inconvenience of being told it was ready and then having to wait. Also, watch your bill for safe charges...everyone at check out complained that they were charged for using the safe when they did not use it. Another problem was the parking deck, small if you have a large car and no elevator. Also, I mentioned to the front desk that people who were not staying there were parking in the deck and I had to park on the street and she just said "probably."

I was disappointed in our room. We went in expecting to get 2 Queen size beds, and found one Queen size bed and a pull out sofa. We spoke to the front desk, who in turn, called the mgr about a discount. The mgr would not allow one. After that, we asked to get an additional mattress for the sofa-bed, and never got one. We also only had maid service once during our whole stay. I was very unsatisfied with our stay at this hotel.

Weekend Getaway
Hotel room was clean and comfortable, Check in and out was fast and easy, but hotel staff were not too informative regarding questions about local area. Restaurant food was not that good. Check in parking was full and not by people checking in so it was a little inconvenient carrying the luggage down from the parking garage since there are no elevators in the parking garage. Overall the stay was good. Would come back to HJ. On another note I think when people call to reserve and there is a special event like "Senior Week", reservationists should inform the people.

Disappointing honeymoon
first room was dirty, second room had no electricity, third room was o.k. chose that hotel because of pool indoors, but was not told that pool was closed from sunday until wednesday. when I expressed my discontent with my one night stay for my honeymoon, no refund was offered nor was a discount for my room. Relaxing vacation
My stay was nice and relaxing, unfortunatley it was cold & rainy, but again relaxing. I do not think that i would come again at the same time. We found that a lot of resteraunts only open on weekend, including the bistro in the hotel. I also was kind of dissapointed that there was no dvd player in the room. One night stay
Trying to fine guest check-in, is bit tricky. I finally found guest check-in I got a standard room with two double bed no veiw. The view i did have was an old run down building . Because the room was in a corner trying to get into the room was tricky. You had the micro-wave stand sitting right next to the door and then a wall. that had hot water tank . You can not carry your bag in on your shoulder .you and your bags would not fit through the door. The security on the door was not very good there was not additional locks on the door. The bathroom was great until you look at the tube. Hair was builded up at the bottom of the showere curtin and the tube look like it hadn't been clean in days. Soap scum was on the wall and ring around the tube. Other then the bathroom , the was nice the new 32 flat screen on the wall was good. This room was idea if you have children and need joining room. the over all stay at this hotel was good. You get what you pay for. If I had to rank this hotel compare to other that I have stay in OC i rank this 9.

Very nice hotel
When we first arrived the parking lot was a little awkward. There are no elevators and you carry your luggage down the stairs. Once we arrived in our room it was very clean and everything was brand new. The lobby was really romantic and has a very warm feel. The fireplace was cute My daughter and I went down to the pool. The hot tub was a little green looking but overall very clean and relaxing. Overall I would recommend this hotel for the price.

Presidents Weekend at the Ocean
Our stay at the hotel was wonderful the weekend was great the weather held off until Monday before the rains came. I was disappointed in the fact that I was trying to book an Ocean FRONT room with a King bed and ended up with a oceanview room with two doubles. Unforunitly I didn't look at my paper work until after I got to my room only to discover that somehow my reservation was confirmed for the OV but I did request a King non smoking. Other than that the weekend was great. PS the pool area was a little dirty with a over usage of chlorine.

*Ocean City.com or Howard Johnson's misrepresented the reservation************ I registered with the OC.com site for an ocean front view, non smoking room. I am allergic to smoke severely. Received the confirmation by email that my room was confirmed by the hotel. I called Ocean City.com asking if it was ocean front/non smoking. I was advised yes, that's correct. I called the number that was listed on the reservation confirmation from Howard Johnson's (see attached photo) again I was told, yes I had an oceanfront, non-smoking room. When I got to the motel, I was told, I never spoke to them and even though I paid for an ocean front (I had the email reservation with me) through the Ocean City.com site, I was not getting an ocean front room and I had to take a smoking side view room due to that is what ocean city.com stated I wanted. I was advised that Ocean City.com does this all the time then expects the hotel to correct the errors. I called Ocean city.com that day and said what had happened and the gentleman said " what else can we say but sorry, we were wrong, but we can't do anything about it." I had advised the gentleman that the motel was unable to honor the request but would lower the amount of the stay, but the issue is I didn't get what I wanted and I am sick due to the smoking room. The gentleman said "I don't understand what is the problem, I see that they are working with you and have given you a lower price ..what more do you want?" I said "When you pay for a front view of the ocean/non smoking...I want a non smoking room, ocean front." Again I was told "Hey, the motel is working with you, what else can we tell you. I can't do anything more, I have apologized for the error that is all I can do." ******I did not appreciate the attitude or the arrogance of customer service representative I spoke to at Ocean City.Com. My husband and I was looking so forward to the ocean front view for our getaway..Someone misrepresented themselves, they admitted they misrepresented themselves and did nothing to correct the issue except for saying "Sorry". **Not being able to breath/sick and coughing all the time is not romantic! **Sincerely, Deborah

Ocean City weekend
We did not use the pool so I didn't state an opinion. We enjoyed our stay. The rooms were clean and the location very convient. We ate dinner and breakfast in the italian restaurant downstairs and had excellent meals both times. Another breakfast was next door. In fact, we didn't move the car all weekend!

Unsatisfactory
The carpet in the hallways was filthy. The shower curtain was mildewed and smelled like urine. For the price i paid i was looking forward to a clean room and upscale hotel. I would really be mad if it wasn't for the after Laborday discount. I certainly hope these problems will be corrected!

Racist bartender
We had a good time over all. But the bartender at the restaurant inside HJ hotel almost ruined our stay. @ about 5PM on the 2nd of September I sat on the bar while my husband went to use the restroom. I was ready to order our drinks, but she did not even look at me. Then my husband came back to find out she didnยt bother to ask me if I wanted anything. She continued to totally ignore us. She served a couple that came later. My husband was ready to just get up and leaveย I insisted on staying getting my drink. I said can we please get some service? She had the nerve to tell me that she thought I was waiting!!! Waiting for what? She should acknowledge my presence. How about the long wait since my husband got back? We could have understood if she was busy, but she only had about 4 couples including us. We had planed to eat dinner there that night, but after that experience we decided not to bother. I hate to use the race card but that was definitely a racist treatment. The front desk stuff also could use some training on hospitality.

RELAXING AFTER MAJOR HEALTH CRISIS
The stay was fine though we had our safe not work and took a couple of hours to extract our money so we could ger supper. The staff was nice about it but it was frustrating to waste so much time. Table was broke in room also. In short the staff was kind and excellent, facilities clean but slow elevators and broken equipment in room was dissappointing.

Very unhappy
outlets were hanging out of the wall with no plates over them, all furniture was molded and had water damage at the bottoms, bathroom was tiny and had dirt between all the tiles and was in desperate need of caulking. We have a 19 month old daughter and was appauled that she had to stay in these conditions for 3 nights - especially for the price we paid for this room! We will never stay at a howard johnsons again nor will we refer anyone to this hotel.

Not the best.
It was ok. The room was kinda small and smelled kind of weird when we walked through the door. When I looked at the pictures from a website for this hotel, i saw a pull out sofa bed but when I got to the hotel, I didn't see it and one person had to sleep on the floor.

Summer vacation
I was not happy with my stay at all. Very disappointed with hotel, services, and room. I left a long lists of comments at the desk at check out time. I stayed there in 2004 and at that time was very satisfied, but went downhill since then. Do not intend to return any time soon. Very unhappy.

Howard Johnson Oceanfront Plaza
The place or the rooms did not look like the pictures on the website. The staff there were pleasant and we did have an incident and the manager made right by it. Though the place was not what I expected it is clean and there is a restaurant and bar on the premises for the patrons convience. The price I thought was a bit high for the room and this was in the off season too. Can't imagine paying more for it during peak season!

I may not be back because...
We have stayed here for nearly 10 or 11 years. We are recognized by the long-term employees and we like the location. Over all ov these years, this last stay has had a negative effect on us. I booked the vacation, paid in advance the full amount for both rooms. I called two days before our stay and verified our stay and all charges have been paid. The day of arrival, I was told that I needed to pay an additional $700+, that a mistake was made. The manager gave me a courtesy discount rate to help, and that was very sweet of ther. However, I still had to pay after verifying the amount just before the stay, which caused some discomfort to my wallet, and our plans of activities had to be adjusted. I'm not certain that we well be returning, but thanks for the great memories.
