Our stay at Ocen City

Reason for staying: Family Vacation

Dates stayed: Jun 22 to Jun 25, 2009

Submitted by: carla m., West Virginia, on June 29, 2009.

I booked the hotel on line. I was taking 2 elderly people on vacation. One loved Ocean City from years past and the other had never been there. She always went south for her beach vacations. I told her she would love Ocean City that my father (one of the elderly guest) took our family there almost every year while I was growing up. I asked for 2 beds and a cot when I made the reservations. When we arrived the room was very small and no where to fit a cot. I went back to the desk and told them that I had to have a bigger room. They told me that no one would have told me that because they didn't have cots. I told them that is what I was told on the phone. They gave me a bigger room, we moved some furniture and made room for a blow up mattress that we bought at the local wal mart. The first night my father's bed was so uncomfortable he couldn't not rest. I went to the front desk again and told them that the bed was broken down and it caused one to lay in a half moon shape. They told me they would send someone up. They told us later that the box spring were broken in half and they replaced them. That night we tried to sleep on the bed again and it was still uncomfortable. The front desk clerk said they would replace the matteres that it must have been broken down due to the box springs. The shower wouldn't turn on properly. Once the water was adjusted and you turned on the shower handle, only cold water would come out. The first night I bathed out of the bath tub faucet. Of course the elderly people couldn't so they skipped a shower the first night. We mentioned it to the front desk and they said they would look at it. The next night the water still wasn't fixed. I'm sure it wasn't something that could be fixed in one day so I didn't mention it again. We finally figured out that if we turned the faucet on with just a very small amount of pressure the warm water would come thru, enough to get a quick shower. The tub wouldn't drain while you were showering but it drained after a couple of hours.
It finally quit raining on the last day of our stay and we went to the pool. We were there 1 and 1/2 hours and we never were allowed in the water because they were checking the pool and putting chemicles in it. It appeared to be an inspector doing the work. The sign on the pool gate said the pool was closed that day until 2. At two I went back and waited until 3:30. The pool was lined with anxious vacationers but I gave up and went to the room.
I think our room was over priced. We decided to stay one more night and the only reason we stayed there was because it was too hard to move everything for just one night. I went to the front desk and the room cost a lot less then what they chared me on line. I think we should have gotten a discount for all the problems but none was offered.

I chose the Harrison Hall because on line it looked like the view from the front porch was the perfect spot for the two elderly family members I had with me. That was the best part of our vacation. They could leave the room and go to the porch and see the ocean. We also appreciated the elevator because one guest had a fractured hip and a fracture ankle in the past 6 months. My father had fallen and broken both his lower legs so it was difficult for him to walk this year. I appreciated the coffee in the lobby. They both drink coffee and enjoy it in the mornings without having to leave the hotel. I know it doesn't seem like much but it is when handicapped guest are involved. I'm glad I took both of them but I wish our memories of Ocean City could have been better. I will be sure to use a different hotel next year.

Not Happy

Reason for staying: Family Vacation

Dates stayed: Jun 19 to Jun 20, 2009

Submitted by: Susan R., Maryland, on June 21, 2009.

Was very disappointed that part of our family needed to stay home due to room size. I booked the reservation for a "non-skoking room for 4 people". Web site indicated that the room I booked would accomodate max 4 people. When we arrived at the hotel, they had only reserved a room with a queen bed. They offered us a smoking room with a double and twin bed which meant I had to call my husband, who was to join us later that evening, and tell him to stay home, as there would not be any room for him. Yes. the front desk did try and find us another hotel, but not ocean front and almost $100.00 more for the night. We booked at the Harrison because of location and disappointed that all we got was "sorry, we see where you booked a room for 4 people, but there must have been a computer glitch". Oh and let's not forget that they offered, us the double with twin room but charged us $5.00 more because it was a smoking room. Remember, we wnted non-smoking. Beware....if you reserve a room for 4 and your reservation indicates single queen...THERE IS NO PULL OUT to go along with that !
